Bar Council pours cold water on regulator’s complaints plans – Law Society’s Gazette

‘he barristers’ representative body has poured cold water on proposals by the regulator to make the process of handling complaints from third parties more independent. In a consultation response the Bar Council said it disagreed with the Bar Standards Board’s (BSB) proposals to replace the professional conduct committee (PCC) with an independent decision-making body.’

Media watchdog upholds complaint by council over “distorted” coverage of foster case – Local Government Lawyer

‘The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) has upheld a complaint by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets against a national newspaper’s coverage of a fostering case.
IPSO concluded that The Times had breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) in an article headlined ‘Judge rules child must leave Muslim foster home’, which was published on 30 August 2017.’

‘Members of the Jewish community have lodged more than 1,000 official complaints calling on Labour to investigate Jeremy Corbyn over anti-Semitism.

The signatories add their names to a complaint lodged by the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism (CAA) earlier this month. The charity, which is considering legal action if Labour refuses to investigate, says that Mr Corbyn has failed to act to stamp out hatred for three years and now his party must show that they take the matter seriously.

‘Health chiefs will investigate whether black and other ethnic minority (BME) doctors are the victims of racism after revealing they are more likely to be hauled before disciplinary tribunals than white colleagues. The General Medical Council (GMC) said there has been a persistent “overrepresentation” of complaints against ethnic minority doctors in recent years.’

‘Savvy travel bookers who click on low price adverts may find they are often lead to air, rail and bus websites which do not have any seats at the advertised reduced fares. The advertising watchdog has found that in at least one case this is because there were never many low fare seats available at all, and has banned Megabus from advertising its seats as “from £1” after it was found only three per cent of seats were available at that price.’
