Whistleblowers are not protected, because the Public interest Disclosure Act is not fit for purpose. Trade union figures show 1,500 whistleblowers were dsmissed between 1999 and 2004, and 40% of their complaints were not even considered by their managers.

Employees are now subject to draconian codes of conduct, which make it very easy for any employer to dismiss a whistlebblower for misconduct. In contrast management are not under any duty to investigate, or remedy alleged bad practice. Until these fundamental flaws are addressed in all areas of employment, abuse of power, and poor sevice will continue.
